women on mission

Women’s Missionary Union is a missions education organization affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. WMU is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention and is self-governing and self-supporting.

WMU ‘s overall goal is to educate and involve women, girls, and preschoolers in the cause of Christian mission. This goal is accomplished through age-level organizations for preschooler, girls, and women in local Southern Baptist churches. These organizations are Mission Friends, Girls in Action, Acteens, and Women on Mission. Nearly one million youth and adults participate in these organizations nationwide.

WMU is 108 years old. There are 41 states or regional WMU organizations with the national organization. It is the largest Protestant missions organization for women in the world. WMU was the first, and remains the largest, body of organized laity in the Southern Baptist Convention.

Support of missionaries has always been a priority for WMU. WMU raises money for two mission boards annually, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for home missions. These offerings are promoted church wide.

In addition, Women On Mission at First Baptist are involved in many mission efforts. Some of their projects are the following:
