As we work to build unity and build for the future, First Baptist Tifton will need PaceSetters. Are you ready to help us define what’s Central to Love?
For years, First Baptist Church has been “famously” known as The Church Built on Love. It’s become part of the identity of our church. We will get the chance to show all of Tifton and Tift County what is Central to Love!
How will FBC Tifton respond? How will we choose to define “The Church Built on Love?”
Can we be the church defined in Acts 2:44: “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common…”? That passage is found under the title “A Vital Church Grows” in the NKJV of the Bible. It continues on to say: “…and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Unity is Central to Love
Our church growth over the last decade has us at a point in 2016 where we currently do not have a facility large enough to gather as an entire church body. Whether that is on Wednesday nights for supper, a combined Sunday Worship Service, a dinner on the grounds, or a large conference hosted by one of our internal organizations, we need a space for large groups to gather and fellowship. Our current facilities can handle approximately 400 people in the gym, 840 in the sanctuary, 300 in the chapel, and 100 in the Memorial Social Hall. With over 1800 resident members, and an average of over 1000 in worship on Sundays, we are eclipsing those numbers every week. We are also growing each year. That is why we must consider the unity of our church an immediate need that has to be addressed. It has to be Central to Love. We have to Build Together in order to provide unity for our church.
Growth by Reaching the Lost is Central to Love
Our church lives out the idea of LOVE in our mission. L stands for LOVE GOD, O stands for OBEY, V stands for VENTURE INTO THE ENTIRE WORLD, and E stands for EQUIP. This is the central idea behind “The Church Built on LOVE.” It is not the emotion, not the street, but the idea of loving and obeying God and venturing into the entire world, equipped to bring the lost home. That is the church that we claim to be. Better than that, it’s the church that we strive to be. Proving that reaching the lost for Christ is Central to Love, we as a church can fulfill our mission. Building tomorrow is the way we define the solution for issues arising from continued growth by reaching the lost for Christ. We have services currently reaching close to 100 new people each year, year after year. Today, we are seeing more people at the 10:50 hour in the gym with little to no room to sit. Because of this, we have been faced with a choice. Continue on our current path, which could cause us to turn away believers and nonbelievers searching for a church home, or choose to return to our mission statement and ask, “Is this Central to LOVE?” Will we meet our goal of reaching the lost for Christ if we simply sit still? Will we be considered good stewards of the blessings we have received? Are we, as a church, meant for more? Is this growth proving that tomorrow at FBC Tifton is brighter than today? Are we simply at the bottom of a mountain, poised to climb to the peak? That’s why we must consider continued church growth an immediate need facing FBC Tifton. It has to be Central to Love. Building Tomorrow ensures we can provide for the growth we expect to see from reaching the lost in Tifton.
We must do these two things, if for no other reason than to fulfill the desires of Jesus as he gave his disciples their final commandment: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13: 34-35) We are called to LOVE. What an amazing task to be assigned by the father. LOVE as I have LOVED you. FBC Tifton is now challenged to define that LOVE. What is Central to Love? Our answer? Growing the Kingdom of God through church unity and by reaching the lost for Christ. Are you ready to LOVE like you have never LOVED before?
